  15. <p>     DIED. ORVAL FAUBUS, 84, former six-term Governor of Arkansas
  16. who defied a 1957 federal order to desegregate Little Rock's
  17. public schools; in Conway, Arkansas. The Little Rock crisis
  18. bloomed when Faubus dispatched the Arkansas National Guard to
  19. prevent nine black students from entering Central High School.
  20. A federal judge ordered Faubus to stop interfering--an edict
  21. that was finally enforced by federal troops. Faubus would remain
  22. Governor until 1967; in later years he pursued a number of careers,
  23. including work as a bank teller.
